Why is chicken broth healthy

Chicken broth are full of electrolytes, protein, good fats and minerals. As an added bonus it is very easy to digest and coats the lining and digestive tract. Chicken broth is perfect to drink or eat as part of a soup when suffering from an illness, it is the best way to support your body and give it the right building blocks in easy to digest form to recover quickly.

TO ROAST OR NOT TO ROAST THE CHICKEN

For the most flavor it is best to roast or fry the chicken to get some caramelization going. This intensifies the flavor of the final product.

ARE VEGETABLES NECESSARY IN A CHICKEN BROTH

No they are not necessary, but it adds to the nutritional value and flavor of your broth.

WHEN TO ADD SALT IN A CHICKEN BROTH

It is best to salt the chicken before roasting and add more salt when cooking. The meat tends to easily taste bland and it is difficult to get the salt to flavor the meat once fully cooked. 

IS CHICKEN FAT HEALTHY AND HOW TO USE IT

When using organic free range chicken the fat is a wonderfuly healthy and tasty alternative for vegetable oils and butter.

Chicken fat consist mostly of saturated fat and contains a high percentage of omega 3 fatty acids. A good source of fat to add to a balanced diet. 

Recipe for Chicken Broth

INGREDIENTS

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Coat the chicken with olive oil and salt it on all sides.
  2. Place on a baking sheet and bake on 200 for 30min
  3. Put chicken in a large pot and scrape everything from the baking sheet into the put, that gives beautiful flavor!
  4. Chop veggies and fry in a little olive oil until browned.
  5. Add to chicken.
  6. Cover with water and cook at a simmer for 1 hour, keeping the water above the meat by afding if necessary.
  7. Remove chicken and debone if you like to be ready for a quick meal. (Keep the bones!)
  8. Pour broth through a sieve into glass bottles to put in the fridge or freezer to use later.
  9. Put the bones in the freezer until you have enough for a chicken bone broth for even more health benefits.

Cook Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2kg Chicken pieces (preferably organic and free range)
  • 20ml Olive oil
  • 10ml Salt
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Carrots
  • 1 large celery stick
  • 1 Garlic
  • Water to cover

Instructions

    1. Coat the chicken with olive oil and salt them on all sides.

    2. Place on a baking sheet and bake on 200 for 30min

Notes

  • Your homemade chicken broth will last in the fridge for 4 days or in the freezer for 6 months. The fat layer on top of the broth insulate the broth and help it to stay good.
